This very metaphoric and metaphysical cinematic excursion was a bit more experimental, even in the hands of of Joel & Ethan Cohen who have produced some of the most audaciously original pieces in Hollywood in the last 25 years. Film itself follows a self-important playwright John Turturro as he is carted off to the west coast to write for a second tier movie studio in the early 1940s. Submerged in the confines of his very peculiar hotel room, he suffers incredible writer's block in amidst meeting John Goodman's gregarious insurance salesman who lives in the next room. Incredible art design, wildly absorbing set pieces, and a scenario that is alternately hilarious and harrowing. Not for all tastes granted, but certainly the ticket if you are seeking curiously original!
